River Talks: shaping our landscape and culture
This years Slow Marathon takes participants 26miles With and Against the Flow of the River Deveron, inspired by Anne Murray and Jake Williams' project. Join us for a post Slow Marathon chat with your experiences and ideas of rivers and their significance.
We will be joined by writer, broadcaster and film maker, Jasper Winn. Amongst many other trips, Jasper has cycled across the Sahara, canoed the length of the Danube in Iron Curtain days, pedaled across West Africa, through India and around Iceland and roller-skated the length of the Netherlands. His account of a thousand mile sea-kayak trip around the whole coast of Ireland was published as Paddle. Determined to find adventures within Europe in the winter of 2014, Jasper walked the 500 miles from Munich to Paris in the footsteps of film-maker Werner Herzog.
Also joining us, to specifically discuss the Deveron and it's uses, will be Richie Miller of the Deveron, Bogie and Isla Rivers Trust, George Rutton of the Deveron Paddlers and Frank Henderson of Turriff Tackle and Trophies.
Lunch by Rhynie Woman. Finish 1pm.
In collaboration with Huntly and District Development Trust. Event is free, but booking essential.
