Slow Down Contrails, 2009

The Bike Shack, NoW

Plastic bottle, chalk

Glasgow-based artist Jacqueline Donachie took up residence in Huntly in 2009, working on the theme of transport in a small-town and the premise that 'slow is beautiful'. Donachie played with the idea of a car-free town, creating a community event, drawing on the streets with bicycles. Huntly folk took to the streets riding bicycles, and the resultant criss-crossing of colourful trye tracks stretched from the town square to the old quarry.

This piece, a plastic bottle filled with coloured chalk, survives as a document to this event. It is located in the Bike Shack, run by Networks of Wellbeing, who were partners in this project.
